New research project to promote sustainable agriculture in Uzbekistan

A kick-off workshop of the project “Better understanding of the adoption of sustainable agricultural practices in Uzbekistan” (UzFarmBarometer) was held at the Westminster International University in Tashkent (WIUT), Uzbekistan, on 11 October 2023
The primary objective of the workshop was to introduce the project idea to potential stakeholders, marking the commencement of a collaborative research endeavor between WIUT, the project partner in Uzbekistan, and IAMO.
The kick-off workshop brought together researchers and analysts from various national and international organizations who deal with agriculture and farming sector in Uzbekistan. The project coordinator Nodir Djanibekov introduced the workshop participants to the vision and activities planned for the project’s next 24 months. The project leader Thomas Herzfeld provided insights on the role of behavioral factors in farmers’ decisions that could be relevant for the Uzbekistan’s context. IAMO’s doctoral researchers Abdusame Tadjiev and Zafar Kurbanov delivered empirical examples how farm survey data can be used for contributing to ongoing discussions on agricultural policies in Uzbekistan.
