IAMO organizes a successful Autumn School in Uzbekistan
01 November 2024
On 7–11 October, IAMO researchers, Nodir Djanibekov and Abdusame Tadjiev, in collaboration with the Center for Policy Research and Outreach (CPRO) of the Westminster International University in Tashkent (WIUT), organized a five-day Autumn School focused on the Econometric Analysis of Farmers’ Adoption Decisions of Sustainable Agricultural Practices.
The Autumn School aimed to enhance research capabilities in agricultural economics among PhD students, researchers, and analysts. An intensive program designed to enhance skills in the quantitative analysis of adoption decisions, provided the participants with hands-on training, exploring econometric methods and combining theoretical lectures with practical exercises and group work. Nodir Djanibekov and Abdusame Tadjiev served as instructors, guiding participants through the application of these methods to real farm-level data.
The event is a component of the UzFarmBarometer project, a collaborative initiative between IAMO and CPRO/WIUT. This BMBF-funded project seeks to understand the motivations and constraints faced by farmers in Uzbekistan and develop strategies to facilitate voluntary adoption of sustainable agricultural practices.
Following the Autumn School, project partners from CPRO/WIUT and IAMO convened for a project coordination workshop on 17 October. The workshop focused on reviewing the progress of research activities, including the implementation of farm surveys and behavioral experiments in Samarkand province, and planning the next steps for the second year of the project.
